| The Atlanta Teachers Federal Credit Union had its beginning in 1931 in the home of Mrs. Oretha Brooks Brown on Linden Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia. There were ten women elementary school principals who formed the formal initial organization in 1934.
Men and women became investors at an early stage in the growth of the organization. The first president of the organization was Mrs. Cora Finley. The second president was Charles L. Harper. Later in 1941, as the organization began to increase its membership, and the need arose for more space to be provided, the Atlanta Teachers Federal Credit Union was moved to an upstairs office in the Citizens Trust Bank building on Auburn Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia. From this location the Atlanta Teachers Federal Credit Union moved to 261 Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard, NW, Atlanta, Georgia, its present site, in 1969, where it occupied a structure which was remodeled to provide office space. |
